Jim has a depth of experience in aviation technology, particularly in unmanned aircraft systems.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Electronics and Communications from the Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Science in Aerosystems Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology.
Jim has spent over 21 years with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority commencing as an Airworthiness Engineer and later as the Section Head of Aircraft Systems and New Technologies in the Airworthiness Branch. More recently, Jim was also the Australian representative and Chair of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Group.
Ron has over 30 years’ experience in the aviation industry in a variety of senior operational, safety and regulatory roles.
Ron is a Director of the Australian Association of Unmanned Systems (AAUS), and recently completed his thesis ‘Unmanned and Uncontrolled: the commingling theory and the legality of unmanned aircraft system operations’ with the University of Sydney on the legal aspects of RPAS operations.
As former Head of Safety and Regulatory Compliance at Qantas Airways, and Head of Airline Operations with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Ron has operational, safety and regulatory experience across all sectors of the aviation industry. Ron is also a member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal as an aviation specialist.
